Remarkable news about the Comet Measurement System, a new product by Photonics Healthcare.
Publishers of the magazine Anesthesiology have summarized a publication with the research results of a prototype of the COMET Measurement System, which states that the direct measuring of tissue oxygenation would be a major step forward in the field of peri-operative medicine. O’Brien and Schmidt have written a special editorial for the July 2016 number of Anesthesiology, stating: A reliable measure of oxygen tension at the level of the mitochondria might significantly refine transfusion practice in anesthesiology and critical care … Indeed, every clinical scenario with questions about the adequate care of tissue cells with oxygen could essentially benefit of this method. If the mitochondrial oxygen tension in humans can be measured with great reliability, it will be difficult to overrate the potential value of this technology.
