Unitron joins hands for Crossroads project ‘ROBYN’

Fast, painless and effective vaccination with a cobot

Unitron joins hands for Crossroads project ‘ROBYN’

This is possible with the ROBYN: an advanced, autonomous cobot that not only ensures pain-free vaccination, but also fully automates vaccine selection, manipulation and administration.

With *Crossroads project ‘ROBYN’, Unitron Group (NL), Idevax (BE) and Stemberg (BE) partner with an international consortium of other organisations involved,  focus on the development of a user-friendly robot for automatic vaccination. The project contributes to the realisation of important societal transitions, in particular sustainable
entrepreneurship and health.

In addition, we connect to existing initiatives and local, provincial, regional policy objectives. The “ROBYN” project falls within the top cluster Life sciences & health. Unitron brings expertise on board within the consortium in hardware, software, robotisation integration and risk control. ‘Our task is to ensure that the cobot functions autonomously and safely, choosing the right vaccine and delivering it correctly,’ says Fabian van Dommelen (Unitron). ‘With smart sensors and AI, the cobot should recognise and avoid risky skin areas, such as birthmarks and scars.’

Thanks to the deployment of the innovative ROBYN cobot, vaccination is becoming not only more efficient, but also more patient-friendly. Instead of a traditional injection into the muscle, the cobot administers the vaccine into the skin. This superficial administration method ensures that the active substances come into direct contact with immune cells in the skin. As a result, a lower dose is needed to trigger a strong immune response. Moreover, patients experience no pain after administration, which significantly increases comfort.
