Expansion and renewal
On March 20, Unitron officially opened a new production facility in IJzendijke. With this expansion, the medtech company is doubling the production capacity of its Zeeland location. The opening was presided over by the King’s Commissioner, Hugo de Jonge.
The new facility marks an important step in Unitron’s growth strategy. The past year was characterized by expansion and renewal: the Hengelo facility was modernized, electronics operations were expanded, and in November 2025, Unitron opened its first location in the United States. The new production facility in IJzendijke is the final piece of this growth phase.
According to Commercial Director Pieter De Wilde, Unitron is responding to a clear market trend: “The medical manufacturing industry is under increasing pressure to produce closer to home. With this expansion, we can support customers in Europe more quickly and flexibly.”
With the establishment of Unitron Medx, LLC in North Carolina, the company has also taken a significant step into the U.S. market. This region, known as the Research Triangle, is considered one of the most important innovation hubs in the United States.
The U.S. branch offers European medtech companies direct access to the world’s largest medical market. Unitron supports the entire process: from product development and regulatory compliance to manufacturing and service. In doing so, the company helps clients meet the strict requirements regarding local presence, FDA regulations, and logistics.
Unitron focuses on the development and production of medical equipment, from the initial concept through to mass production. The company’s strength lies in complex mechatronic systems that integrate mechanics, electronics, and software.
Examples include sensor-controlled pump systems, ventilators, electrophysiology measurement equipment, and various optical and thermal systems. Unitron is also active in the field of printed electronics.
Operating from Europe, the company leverages its own production network and extensive knowledge of both European and U.S. regulations. Its clients range from startups to major international players in the medical sector.
Since its founding in 1988, Unitron has been supporting international medical technology companies in the development and manufacture of medical devices. With over 100 employees and offices in IJzendijke, Hengelo, Ghent, and Cary (U.S.), the company has grown into an experienced partner in the industry.
Unitron is ISO 13485-certified, FDA-registered, and active in the European, American, and Japanese markets.
